The H4 Bulb is a twin filament bulb, this means it operates high and low beam from one bulb. Only one H4 bulb will be fitted to each headlamp. It is the most popular bulb and was released in 1971, it quickly became the predominant headlamp bulb throughout the world.

'HB3' bulbs can be easily confused with 'HB4' bulbs as the Sockets are very similar, however difference between the bulbs is the wattage and beam projection, manufacturers tend to use these two type of bulbs together in a single headlight to provide high and low beam.
The HB4 (a.k.a 9006) is mainly used in the headlight as a low beam bulb, it is also widely used as a fog light bulb.
